Weighted Loss Ratio: This is the average loss ratio determined through the weighting process. See Weighting.
Weighting: Weighting represents the portion of both the current and prior year’s experience which will be used to calculate an average loss ratio for the purpose of determining the experience rate. Generally the most current year’s experience is given the most weight since it is assumed to be the most accurate indication of future claiming patterns. However, the most recent year may not always be indicative of past or future claiming patterns so the previous one or two years are also given some consideration. Each carrier has their own weighting formula.
